Ardmore Approves Five-Year Landfill Disposal Agreement with SORD, Including Rate Increase Caps
The City Commission approved a five-year disposal service agreement between the City of Ardmore and Southern Oklahoma Regional Disposal Incorporated (SORD) for landfill solid waste disposal. The current agreement expired at the end of June 2026. The new agreement, effective July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2031, allows for gate rate increases in years two through five, capped at specific percentages: 9.85% in year two, 9.83% in year three, 10.12% in year four, and 9.89% in year five. These increases require approval from the SORD board. Melissa Lang explained that these caps are projections and the board must approve any increases. The agreement was reviewed and approved by Attorney Thomas Baldwin, and staff recommended its approval. The discussion clarified that the rate for year one remains unchanged from the previous agreement. Commissioners inquired about the basis for the projected increases, with explanations focusing on rising costs for equipment, field operations, and manpower, as well as the financial stability of the landfill. It was confirmed that Ardmore is SORD's largest client, and while all nine member cities pay the same rate, the caps ensure increases do not exceed specified percentages. The agreement was ultimately approved.
Ardmore Proclaims July as Parks and Recreation Month, Celebrates Department Staff
The Mayor and City Commission of Ardmore, Oklahoma, celebrated Parks and Recreation Month by issuing a proclamation and highlighting the dedication of the Parks and Recreation Department staff. Ardmore City Commission Approves Consent Agenda, Including Appointments and Service Agreement Renewals
The City Commission reviewed and approved several items on the consent agenda, including appointments to various authorities and the renewal of multiple service agreements. The Hardy Murphy Coliseum Trust Authority appointments confirmed Zachary Allen and Justin Marshall for three-year terms, and Diane West for a second three-year term, all expiring June 2029. Appointments to the Ardmore Main Street Authority included Todd Yeager for a first three-year term and Chris Peters for a second three-year term, expiring June 2029. The Ardmore Planning Commission saw appointments of Dave Morty, Gary Sheeby, and Julie Williamson for three-year terms expiring June 2029. Other consent agenda items included a full lump sum distribution to Mr. Steve Cox from the Oklahoma Municipal Retirement Fund, declaration of emergency management department office chairs as surplus for disposal, renewal of an ImageNet laser fish cloud digital agreement for $15,750.61, renewal of a Salt Us Technologies DigiTicket Citation Writing System agreement for $39,571.19, renewal of an Andrew Technologies UKG time and attendance system maintenance agreement for $42,013.66, and renewal of a New Edge Services hosting agreement for city works and GIS applications with the Public Works Authority paying $31,900 and the City paying $27,500. Finally, a minor subdivision plat for four lots on 0.96 acres in the High Point Edition, Phase 2, located in the 700 block of 3rd Avenue southeast, was approved.
Ardmore City Commission Enters Executive Session to Discuss Interim City Manager Appointment
The Ardmore City Commission convened a meeting where they approved the agenda, minutes from the previous meeting, and the consent agenda. Following the approval of regular business items, the commission voted to enter into an executive session. The purpose of the executive session was to discuss the employment, hiring, and appointment of an interim acting city manager, in accordance with Article 3, Section 21 of the City Charter and state law (25 OS 307B1). The motion to enter executive session was made by Mayor Pleasure and seconded by Vice Mayor Ellis, commencing at 6:28 p.m.
