Elizabeth Santini, president of an HOA, reported ongoing issues with a former police officer not complying with HOA rules, citing signs and items on display at the property. City officials indicated a violation notice was issued and addressed through code enforcement, though the HOA expressed concerns about needing security assistance if they had to clean the property themselves. Alexander A. Goutros, a local business operator, voiced concerns about over-regulation, particularly the dual approval process required by the CRDA and Mercantile Department for businesses, and the fees associated with Airbnbs. Ben Silkwest inquired about the restoration of sidewalks and streets after lead water line replacements, and suggested the city take advantage of free LED lighting programs. Sherry Trough raised concerns about noise from the Golden Nugget and Sirens, the number of people in Airbnbs, a potential hazard at 529 Barrett Avenue, and the curfew. City officials responded to the sidewalk and street restoration, confirming curb-to-curb restoration including sidewalks after utility work. They also clarified that the curfew remains in effect and a hotline is available for Airbnb issues.
Atlantic City Fire Department and Police Report on Incidents, Heat Advisory Issued, and Crime Statistics Update
Atlantic City Fire Department reported on their activities from June 3rd to June 30th, noting 526 total incidents. This included 46 fires or hazardous situations, 256 medical calls, 46 public service calls, 35 rescue operations, 105 false alarms, and 9 law enforcement support incidents. The fire prevention division conducted 233 fire inspections, 338 re-inspections, and issued 120 permits. Additionally, the city is facing an extreme heat wave from July 2nd to July 4th, with temperatures expected to exceed 105 degrees Fahrenheit, prompting public health advisories. The Police Department reported 49,737 calls for service in 2026, a 12.4% decrease from the previous year, but arrests are up by 3.5% with 2,749 made year-to-date. A recent incident on June 2nd involved officers responding to a female gunshot victim, providing life-saving aid and apprehending suspects, with commendations for the Bravo 2 shift, Robo2 Patrol, Trolley 2 Patrol shifts, and the Body Crimes Unit. The city also maintains a curfew in effect nightly from 10 PM, enforced by officers.
Health and Human Services Announces Upcoming Senior Events and Trips
The meeting included updates from Health and Human Services on upcoming events. These include a Senior Beach Day on July 21st, 2026, the initiation of a public mural project by seniors, and the start of a new book club for seniors. Additionally, trips are planned for July 15th, 2026, to Reading Terminal Market and for July 23rd, 2026, to Williamstown Farmers Market, alongside a self-explanatory Walking Club.
City Confirms Sidewalk and Street Restoration Following Utility Work
During the public comment period, Ben Silkwest inquired about the restoration of streets and sidewalks following the replacement of lead water lines. He noted that the streets are being torn up and that sidewalks are being topped with asphalt, creating an uneven surface. He asked if the city would replace concrete sidewalks or if it would be the responsibility of homeowners. The city responded that streets torn up by utility companies, including water and gas, will be restored from curb to curb, and this includes sidewalks. The asphalt patching on sidewalks is temporary to prevent tripping hazards, and the city will undertake the permanent repairs.
