Municipal Building Commission Addresses Temporary PFAS Facility Shutdown, Permanent Plant Progress, and Approves Invoices
The Municipal Building Commission met on July 8th, 2026, to discuss the temporary PFAS facility, which was taken offline on June 22nd due to increased organics and manganese levels. While the permanent facility will address manganese, the temporary shutdown results in a loss of one million gallons of supply per day. The commission also approved the final two invoices for the temporary PFAS facility project from Bishco Building Systems, bringing the project to completion and closeout. Separately, the commission reviewed the progress of the permanent plant construction, noting ongoing submittal reviews and the submission of the second reimbursement request through the SRF program. Site work, including water main connections, electrical conduit installation, transformer vault pad installation, and deep sump excavation, is underway. Next steps involve continued mud mat installation, formwork, and concrete work throughout the summer. The project is currently on time and budget, with no formal change orders issued yet. Reimbursement requests are progressing through the SRF program, and PFAS settlement funds are being utilized to cover ineligible costs, aiming to avoid tapping into market funds. The commission also approved three invoices for June: Daniel O'Connell's Sons for application number six, Wright-Pierce for OPM services, and Taten Howard for engineering services. Finally, the commission discussed potentially moving their meetings to the second Wednesday of each month to better accommodate bill payment timelines.
