City Council Approves Industrial District Designation Near SH 71
The City Council considered and approved Resolution R-2026-101, which designates an area within the city's extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ) as an industrial district. This area, generally located near State Highway 71 and High Lost Pines Road, was voluntarily annexed into the city's ETJ by property owners between 1982 and 1985 to avoid potential annexation by Travis County. The designation allows for tourism-related businesses and encompasses the Hyatt Lost Pines Resort. The resolution passed with a 4-to-1 vote, with Councilmember Fossler voting no due to concerns about a short-term strategy potentially straining long-term relationships.
