Berea City Council Adopts Ordinance Allowing Manufactured Homes in All Residential Districts
The Berea City Council gave its second reading and adopted Ordinance Number 10-2026, which amends the land management and development ordinance. The amendment mandates the inclusion of all qualified manufactured homes as a permitted use in all residential districts. This change is in response to and required by recent amendments to Kentucky state law (KRS 348) by the Kentucky General Assembly in 2020.
Berea Unveils Comprehensive Park Improvement Plan Funded by Tourism Commission
The Berea City Administrator presented a park improvement plan, a collaborative effort with the Tourism Commission, aimed at enhancing tourism through sports, music, and theatrical events. The plan includes developing a new multi-use amphitheater for musical and theatrical performances, a pavilion for parties and food trucks, a regulation-size T-ball field, and a multi-use area for festivals and fairs. The project, fully funded by the Tourism Commission at $1.5 million, will also involve adding electricity along existing pathways for event infrastructure. Renderings of the proposed improvements were shown, and discussions included addressing drainage issues, selecting durable turf, and restroom capacity for large events.
Berea City Council Accepts Stony View Estates Phase One Infrastructure into City Maintenance
The Berea City Council voted to formally accept the sewer and street infrastructure for Stony View Estates phase one into the city's maintenance program. This acceptance includes 3,221 linear feet of street right-of-way valued at $1,360,050 and approximately 2,991 linear feet of 8-inch PVC gravity sewer pipe with 11 manholes, valued at $282,415. Detention ponds for the subdivision will remain the responsibility of the developer. A discussion occurred regarding the long-term maintenance of these ponds, with assurances that a recorded storm water maintenance agreement is in place, transferring responsibility with ownership changes.
