City Council Approves Signage Ordinance Update for Business Flexibility
The council approved the first reading of Ordinance 763, which modifies signage regulations. The ordinance removes the 200 square foot cap per lot and replaces it with a system allocating signage based on lot frontage and building facade. Specifically, signage will be allocated at 200 square feet per frontage foot, and for buildings, at two square feet per one foot of building facade. The maximum size for an individual sign remains 200 square feet. This change aims to provide more flexibility for businesses, particularly addressing issues with lot splits and existing signage allowances, as exemplified by the situation with Sunshine and the adjacent strip mall.
Aspen Park Parking Lot Project Moves Forward with Bid Advertisement Approval
The council approved advertising for bids for the Aspen Park pool parking lot project. The design phase is nearing completion, with plans to advertise for bids on July 22nd and 29th. The bid opening is scheduled for August 11th, with council acceptance expected on August 17th. There is significant interest from construction companies, with expectations for work to commence in the fall.
City Council Approves Agenda, Minutes, Claims, Consent Calendar, and Multiple Project Bids and Ordinances
The council handled various administrative and procedural items, including approving the agenda, minutes, and claims. They also approved the consent calendar, which included wage adjustments for Kevin, Joseph, and Troy, and four plats. A public hearing was held for an alcohol beverage license for the Brandon Baseball Association for a state amateur baseball tournament, which was approved. The council also dealt with the second reading of Ordinance 762 regarding Bethany Meadows subdivision, and approved various project-related change orders and bids for parks and public works projects, including asphalt repairs, ash removal, and materials testing for Holly Boulevard and East Ironwood.
Contracts Awarded for Holly Boulevard Materials Testing and East Ironwood Construction Administration; Slurry Shield Project Completed
The council approved the contract for materials testing for the Holly Boulevard project. Geotech Engineering will conduct testing on materials and compaction along the corridor. Additionally, a contract with DGR Engineering was approved for construction administration of the East Ironwood project, where DGR Engineering previously designed the project. DGR will handle inspections and pay applications. A slurry shield project is also mentioned, which is completed and involved tribes edition and part of the core area, with a deductive change order of approximately $17,000.
Bethany Lift Station Bids to be Advertised; Water Treatment Plant Project Nears Completion
The council approved advertising for bids for the Bethany lift station project, which is scheduled for construction next year. The early bidding is intended to secure materials with long lead times and take advantage of the current favorable bidding environment. Separately, the water treatment plant project is nearing completion, with the final change order (a deduct of $12,877) approved. The final inspection acceptance has also been approved, setting a one-year warranty date of May 8th, 2026. Community feedback on the RO system's impact on softener salts has been minimal.
