City Approves Right-of-Way Vacation for Brighton Crossing Filing Nine
The City Council approved the vacation of a portion of right-of-way for Brighton Crossing Filing nine. This excess right-of-way, no longer needed for North Golden Eagle Parkway, will be conveyed to Brighton Crossing LLC for the construction of a private roadway. This private roadway aims to prevent vehicles from backing directly onto the busier North Golden Eagle Parkway, improving traffic safety within the subdivision. The city staff and Development Review Committee recommended approval, citing compliance with the Land Use and Development Code and no adverse impacts on nearby properties. An easement for public access and a utility easement for the city were also required as conditions of approval.
Brighton Adopts Hauler Licensing Ordinance with Focus on Recycling and Open Market
The City Council held a first reading of an ordinance to regulate and license haulers engaged in solid waste collection, transportation, and disposal within Brighton. The ordinance, developed with extensive community outreach and feedback, aims to increase oversight and accountability in the waste collection system. Key provisions include requiring haulers to provide recycling services alongside trash services at no additional cost to residents (funded by Colorado's Producer Responsibility program), maintaining an open market for hauling services, and setting operational standards. The ordinance was amended to remove labeling requirements for residential bins and to specifically exclude phone numbers from those requirements, addressing concerns about enforcement and compliance. The ordinance passed 8-0 with one absent.
Utilities Department Praised for Water Conservation Efforts Amid Drought
During council member reports, the Utilities Department was specifically commended for its exceptional work, particularly in assisting residents with water conservation efforts. The department provided support for establishing xeric gardens, negotiating sod credits, obtaining 'garden in a box' resources, and programming sprinkler systems for compliance with twice-a-week watering restrictions. This support was crucial during Stage 1 drought conditions, alongside the department's management of wastewater and stormwater transitions and the development of a new plant.
City Recognizes Parks and Recreation Month and Announces Community Events
The City Council recognized Parks and Recreation Month and Parks and Recreation Professionals Day. The Director of Parks and Recreation, along with Carly, highlighted the department's role in creating community spaces and expressed gratitude for council support. A video highlighting Brighton's parks and recreation facilities is upcoming. Additionally, a 'Baskets and Baskets' event was announced for July 11th at Benedict Park, featuring Frisbee golf and picnic baskets to promote park enjoyment.
