Kerry Police Department Recognizes Long-Serving Officers
The village board recognized two employees from the Police Department: Stephanie, for completing 10 years of service, and Anthony, for 15 years of service. Stephanie was hired in July 2016 and has experience as a firearms and taser instructor, currently serving as an SRO at Carrove High School and supplementing the detective bureau. Anthony was hired in July 2011 and has served in capacities including field training officer, officer in charge, investigator, and firearms instructor, currently serving as a patrol sergeant and on the NIPAS EST team. The board expressed appreciation for their dedication and service.
Resident Questions Funding for First Street Repaving; State Contractor Issues Cited
During public comment, a resident questioned the status and allocation of over a million dollars originally appropriated for the repaving of First Street, noting it is not being repaved this year. Village staff explained that the delay is due to the state pulling the contractor because of bidder problems, not a village issue. The money is still available, but the state controls the bidding process. Resident Proposes Traffic Calming Measure and Questions Water Access
A resident proposed the installation of a three-way stop sign at the intersection of New Haven and Seavoi to mitigate traffic speed. The resident noted that a stop sign already exists for right turns on Seavoi, and adding two more stop signs would be a low-cost solution to significantly slow down traffic coming from Route 31. Additionally, the resident expressed concern about the construction contractor accessing fire hydrants for water, questioning the impact on the water supply for potential emergencies on Seavoi.
State Representative's Office Offers Constituent Services and Event Information
State Representative Martin McGofflin's office, represented by Kaylee Sullivan, provided information about constituent services available through their local office at 28662 West Northwest Highway in Lake Barrington. Services include assistance with state departments such as unemployment benefits, FOID card applications, licensing, driver's licenses, state IDs, and insurance issues. The office also hosts community events, including a property tax appeal seminar, prescription drug dropoff, and IP pass event. They encourage residents to bring community issues, particularly those concerning the Illinois Department of Transportation, to their attention for discussion during the veto session. Representative McGofflin is available for community events.
Village Approves Annual Appropriation Ordinance; First Street Repaving Delayed
The village board held a public hearing to consider the annual appropriation ordinance for the fiscal year beginning May 1st, 2026, and ending April 30th, 2027. This ordinance, required by state law, adds 5% to each fund and line item to cover potential emergency costs without needing frequent budget amendments. The ordinance essentially grants the village the authority to spend budgeted funds. A resident inquired about an additional 5% increase, which was clarified as a standard procedure to allow for unforeseen expenses. The discussion also touched upon a delay in the First Street repaving project due to state contractor issues, with the project now slated for the 2027 road program.
