The Police Chief presented the May 2026 report, noting an increase in retail theft due to a targeted effort and a decrease in vehicle thefts. The Fire Marshal presented the May 2026 report with no significant issues noted. The EMS Chief reported on the deployment of three new ambulances funded by a firefighter grant and state funds for video laryngoscopes, and the submission for FEMA grant money for new narcotic safes. The Emergency Management Coordinator thanked the Chelm Fire Company for their work during flooding, highlighted new "road closed" signs on gates to deter reckless behavior, and noted that creek work appears to be paying off with reduced flooding. Discussions also touched on the process for canceling parades and the need for clarity on who has the authority to do so. A successful "cop camp" for children was also mentioned, as was a similar fire camp aimed at recruitment.
New Parking Regulations and Street Name Changes Proposed for Greenwood Ave and South Spring Ave
The Board of Commissioners is considering adopting an ordinance to amend Chapter 285 of the Township Code regarding vehicle and traffic regulations. Specifically, the ordinance proposes adding 15-minute parking only from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on the west side of Greenwood Avenue, located 100 ft south of Lindside Avenue and ending 155 ft south of Lindside Avenue. This change is intended to support local businesses by allowing for quick pickups and to prevent commuters from occupying prime spots all day. Further discussions will clarify if this parking restriction applies seven days a week. Separately, another ordinance amendment is being considered for street and parking regulations on Spring Avenue, M and McGomery Avenue, Windsor Avenue, and Mill Road, and to create a new street named South Spring Avenue. This is to eliminate confusion from streets with similar names and to allow for enforcement of stop signs at certain intersections. No residents will need to change their addresses due to the new street name.
