Feasibility Study for New Sports Complex Presented to Copper Cove City Council

The city council received a presentation on a feasibility study for a new sports complex. The study, conducted by the Sports Facility Company, analyzed market conditions, participation rates, and competition to recommend a facility with eight flex baseball/softball diamonds, two championship diamonds (one baseball, one softball), and supporting amenities. The estimated development cost for the recommended 60-acre complex is $47.5 million, with a range of $42.9 million to $52.1 million. The study projects that by year five, the facility could generate $3.5 million in total revenue and achieve a profit of $300,000 annually, not including debt service or tax generation. Economically, the complex is projected to generate $38.2 million in direct spending from non-local visitors and over $1 million in local tax revenue by year five. The study also highlighted a current shortage of 24 hours per week for diamond programming and three fields for multi-purpose use, projecting a future need of nine additional diamonds and twelve multi-purpose fields based on population growth.
