Crystal Lake Council Approves 24-Unit Senior Housing Development Despite Density Concerns

The City Council considered a request for rezoning, a preliminary PUD, and a comprehensive land use plan amendment for a 24-unit apartment building at 290 East Congress Parkway. The property is a vacant lot at the corner of Congress and Memorial, which has been vacant since 1987. The proposed building is age-restricted senior living. Council members expressed concerns about density and the precedent of allowing residential development on the north side of Congress Parkway. Some council members supported the project due to the need for senior housing and the quality of the design. Ultimately, the motion to approve passed with a 5-2 vote.
