Danville Town Council Adopts Ordinance Prohibiting E-Bikes in Parks and Approves Alternate Appointments to Commissions
The Danville Town Council held a second reading and adopted an ordinance amending municipal code sections 215.1 and 216.1 to allow for the appointment of alternates to the Senior Advisory and Bicycle Advisory Commissions. This change provides flexibility for the commissions to ensure quorum and maintain participation. The ordinance passed unanimously. Separately, the council also unanimously approved an ordinance (9.3) to prohibit e-bikes in town parks, a decision met with support from several residents concerned about safety, particularly for children and older adults. The ordinance focuses on pedestrian safety and simplifies enforcement by prohibiting all e-bikes, regardless of classification, from riding within parks. Street Smarts, a traffic safety education program, has also revamped its curriculum to include information on this new ordinance.
