City Authorizes Lease Agreement with Daphne Search and Rescue Unit

Laura Coker and Scott Koser Reappointed to Industrial Development Board
The City Council approved two appointments to the Industrial Development Board (IDB): Laura Coker and Scott Koser. Both were reappointed for terms running from July 2026 through July 2032. The IDB's next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, July 21st, at 4:30 p.m. in the Jubilee Conference Room.
City Council Denies Permit for Political Campaign Event at Lott Park
The City Council considered a motion to deny a permit for the Austin Sidwell for Congress Bayside Family Fest, scheduled to be held at Lott Park on July 18th. The primary reasons for denial were the applicant's failure to comply with the event ordinance, which requires a request to be submitted no later than 60 days prior to the event, and the lack of proof of insurance submitted within the required timeframe. Additionally, concerns were raised about the potential size of the event, with an estimated 20-40 vendor tents and an expected attendance of 300-1200 participants, questioning the organization and potential commercial benefit on city property. The motion to deny the permit was approved.
City Council Adopts Ordinances on Garbage Collection, Housing Moratorium, Fire Code, and Technical Codes
The City Council adopted four ordinances. Ordinance 2026-19 amends the city's garbage collection ordinance (2017-59). Ordinance 2026-20 establishes a temporary moratorium on accepting and processing applications for multifamily garden apartment development, pending revisions to the city's land use and development ordinance. Ordinance 2026-21 repeals ordinance 2019-33 and adopts the 2024 International Fire Code with amendments. Ordinance 2026-22 amends ordinances 2019-25 and 2021-51, relating to the adoption of certain technical codes by reference.
Eagle Scout Project to Enhance Village Point Preserve Approved
Mr. Levi Shaw presented his Eagle Scout project proposal to construct benches and clear a trail at the Village Point Preserve. The project aims to improve accessibility for visitors, including those with mobility challenges, and provide shelter from the elements with the addition of roofing to the benches. The trail clearing will address disrepair and overgrown vegetation, making it easier for visitors to navigate. The proposal was approved by the City Council.
