Community Initiatives Progressing: Business District Naming, Grants, and Events Scheduled
The Community Relations committee met and discussed the naming of the business district, working with ECA on a plan. They also noted that the farmers market is coming on Wednesday and Music on Mondays is continuing. A $60,000 grant has been received for Bill Reese Field, with the next steps involving grant administration. Beautification received an $8,000 grant from the P Pocono Visitors Bureau for a fall beautification day on September 19th. Brush pickup is scheduled for July 20th-22nd due to recent storms. Community lights are being worked on with MCTI, and Christmas Caroling is planned for December 19th. A free yard sale event is happening this weekend with over 16 participants.
Land Development Application Extended for 112 North Cortland Street Project
The council approved a time waiver request and a preliminary final land development application extension for Troy Nauman's project at 112 North Cortland Street. The extension is granted until midnight of July 30, 2026.
Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance Revisions Under Consideration
The council is considering revisions to Chapter 82, the flood damage prevention ordinance. These revisions are necessary for the well number three and four filtration project and aim to resolve conflicts within the existing ordinance. The current ordinance details construction specifications for utilities and stormwater facilities but lacks clear provisions for them. The proposed changes focus on incorporating existing utilities within floodplains into the ordinance. The recommendation is to send the proposed revisions to the zoning and planning committee for comments and recommendations.
Contract Approved for Replacement of Scum Tubes at Midway Industrial
The council authorized the borough manager to execute a contract with Midway Industrial Co. for the fabrication, purchase, and installation of four new stainless steel open-top scum tubes. The cost shall not exceed $30,050 and will be funded from proceeds of the 2026 debt finance. This purchase is necessary as the existing tubes are very old and need replacement.
Personnel Changes: Maintenance Worker Resignation and New Position Advertised
The council is ratifying the acceptance of Ethan Grossman's resignation from his position as a maintenance worker A in the borough. They are also considering advertising for a budgeted open maintenance worker C position in the streets department, with a salary not to exceed $300,000.
