Edwardsville Council Approves 2027 Employee Health Care Renewal Amidst Rising Costs
The council approved the 2027 employee health care renewal. The medical insurance coverage will increase by 21.4%, dental insurance by 1.2%, while vision and life insurance coverage will not increase. These increases are considered in line with or lower than surrounding communities and were budgeted for, with costs coming in lower than anticipated. The city is also renewing its existing insurance plan without changes except for the cost adjustments.
Edwardsville Announces Diverse Range of Community Events and Volunteer Opportunities
Several upcoming community events and volunteer opportunities were announced for the week. Additionally, a 'Lego Day' event for children will be hosted at the West End Service Station.
Southwestern Electric Cooperative Granted Easement for Power at Sports Park Drive Property
A resolution approving a right-of-way easement to Southwestern Electric Cooperative Incorporated for city property at 33453 Sports Park Drive, specifically near the Chute 360 building, was approved. This easement will allow the cooperative to provide power to the location.
Edwardsville Approves Water Rate Adjustments and Explains Rationale Amidst Rising Infrastructure Costs
An ordinance amending Chapter 118, Article 2 of the city's water ordinances was approved on second reading. Key changes include a shift from a flat service connection fee to a percentage-based increase, applied equally to in-district and out-of-district patrons, which is considered a fairer approach to managing costs and revenue for water services. The public works director explained that increased costs for projects like the water treatment plant ($25 million), distribution system improvements, rising salt and electric costs, and regulatory demands (like a new elevated storage tank mandated by IDPA) necessitate these rate adjustments. Monthly billing will commence in November 2026.
Edwardsville Fire Department to Acquire First Due Software for NERIS Compliance
The council authorized the sole source purchase of the First Due software package from First Due Holdings Inc. for $52,002. This software is necessary for the fire department to become compliant with the National Emergency Response Information System (NERIS) by the end of 2025. The software will help streamline operations.
