Erlanger Council Debates Front Yard Fencing for Autism Safety, Explores Legal Pathways

The council discussed a request regarding front yard fencing for individuals with autistic children, specifically addressing safety concerns related to elopement. Melissa, grandmother of a 5-year-old autistic non-verbal granddaughter, shared her fear of her child running off and the need for a barrier. Michelle highlighted the constant demands on parents of autistic children and the perceived inconsideration of the current ADA process. City Administrator Jack Gatlin stated there appears to be an existing legal pathway for disability-related front yard fencing requests, but codifying it city-wide would require a formal text amendment. Councilwoman Fields is investigating the permit process by submitting her own application for a front yard fence permit.

Erlanger Adopts Updated Accounting and Investment Policies, Approves Lease Agreement

The council approved a municipal order amending the accounting policies and procedures manual and adopting investment policies. These updates involve a robust overhaul of the accounting policies, driven by input from new auditors, and the formalization of an investment policy. Both are considered standard practice for cities and provide more robust policies for the future. Additionally, a resolution was passed authorizing a master municipal lease agreement (number 17170) with Lease Servicing, Inc. (DBA NCL Government Capital) for budgeted items.
