Finley Police Department to Acquire New Body Armor Vests Through Grant Program
The council authorized the city to apply for and accept grant funding through the Ohio Law Enforcement Bulletproof Vest Program, funded by the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation. This grant will be used to purchase or replace body armor vests for the Finley Police Department. The local match is less than $3,000, and the grant will provide 14 ballistic vests. The application was submitted prior to the council's formal approval due to timeline constraints, with the understanding that the application could be revoked if not approved by the council. The vests were budgeted for in the 2026 operating budget.
Captain Jerry Greer Commended for 24 Years of Service Upon Retirement
The City Council passed a resolution commending Captain Jerry Greer for his 24 years of dedicated service to the Finley Fire Department. The resolution highlighted his career progression from firefighter to captain, his heroic actions in rescuing a civilian, his selection as Firefighter of the Year, and his significant contributions to community fire prevention and safety initiatives. New Storm Sewer Installation in Alley Approved; Bidding Waived
The council moved forward with Ordinance 2026-79, authorizing the waiver of formal advertising and bidding requirements to enter into contracts with Homebrick Excavating LLC for the installation of a new storm sewer in the east-west alley between Corey Street and Southwest Street. Funds were appropriated and transferred, and an emergency was declared.
Finance Committee Recommends Shady Grove CRA and Casto Development Ordinance Approval
The Finance Committee met on July 7th, 2026, and recommended moving forward with a post-1994 CRA for Shady Grove with terms of 75% over 15 years, excluding schools. The vote was three in favor (Preston, Dearment, Needles) and two opposed (Dong, Phillips). The committee also recommended approval of Ordinance Number 2026-76 regarding the Casto development, with a vote of four in favor (Dearment, Needles, Phillips, Preston) and one against (Dong).
Finley Airport Runway Improvements to be Funded by ODOT Grant
The council will consider an ordinance authorizing the city to apply for and enter into grant agreements with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) for funds from the Federal Highway Administration. These funds will be used for crack routing and sealing of asphalt pavement on runway 18-36 and new markings on runway 18-36 at Finley Airport. An emergency was declared.
