The proclamation is not expected to have a financial impact on the city. The Parks and Recreation Department is focusing on 'the power of connection, the power of play, and the power of community' in 2026.
Fire Department Ladder Truck Repairs Approved for $16,784
The City Council approved a request for $16,784 for repairs to Fire Department Truck 8177, a 2012 aerial platform (ladder truck). The truck has experienced ongoing mechanical and electrical issues throughout the year, requiring extensive troubleshooting and repairs. Renards Fire Equipment Service, a Pierce authorized repair facility, performed the diagnostics and repairs, which included replacing the brake control, repairing the DEF system, replacing the ladder stow switch, fixing communications with the aerial platform display, and addressing compartment latch doors, along with annual preventative maintenance. The original estimate was $21,248, but staff worked with Renards to reduce costs by sourcing different components, bringing the final price down by $4,500. The truck is expected to return to service in two to three weeks. This expenditure will be funded from the fire truck maintenance account, which is nearly exhausted.
Municipal Building Security System Approved
The City Council approved the purchase and installation of a security access door system for the municipal building from Ignitech for $10,570.34, utilizing 2026 municipal building CIP funds. This system will enhance security by limiting access to authorized staff areas, securing primary entrances and specific internal offices. It will also improve operational efficiency by allowing for programmable access for rentals and enabling shared access with the fire department. The system is scalable for future expansion.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrades: Seven Pumps and Two VFDs Replaced for $253,727
The City Council approved the replacement of five activated sludge pumps and two digested sludge pumps at the wastewater treatment plant, with a total project cost not to exceed $253,727.24. These replacements are funded by the $1.5 million originally borrowed for a solar project that proved not to be cost-effective. The new pumps, manufactured by Flight submersible pumps (sole supplier Water Solutions USA Incorporated), will replace 1991 and 1992 models. Additionally, two 2006 variable frequency drives (VFDs) will be replaced with ABB VFDs by Electronics. Installation of the pumps will be done by Sabell Mechanical. These upgrades are in line with the 2026 Donahue and Associates Bioolids report and are funded from the wastewater utility CIP.
