Gloversville Council Appoints Special Counsel Despite Mayoral Opposition

The Gloversville Common Council considered a resolution to engage Anthony Caselli as special counsel to the city. The resolution proposed paying Caselli $1,500 per week on a contractual basis, with the appointment terminating upon the appointment of a city attorney or by council resolution. The Mayor strongly opposed this resolution, citing the city charter's provision for the mayor to appoint the city attorney, Caselli's contentious past tenure, and the perceived undermining of his authority. He also shared a text message from Caselli that he interpreted as threatening. Councilwoman Anadio seconded the motion, and Council members Bright, McNerre, Robeck, Rusha, Stober, and Hanan voted in favor, passing the resolution. The Mayor requested the resolution be tabled, but this was not supported by the council majority.
