Ocean City Council Considers New Environmental Services Fee Amidst Fiscal Pressures
The Ocean City Council is considering the implementation of an Environmental Services Fee to address projected fiscal strains, rising costs, and revenue changes resulting from state legislation, specifically Senate Enrolled Act One and House Bill 1210. The fee would cover costs associated with trash collection, brush and yard waste, and the environmental services center. The proposed fee, phased in over three years, would culminate in a total of $22.40 per month by 2029. This fee is intended to move services from tax-supported to fee-supported, similar to water and sewer utilities, and to prevent significant cuts to the general fund, which currently supports these services.
