Greer Celebrates Freedom Blast, Community Milestones, and Public Art Progress

The city of Greer hosted its 17th annual Freedom Blast event on Saturday, honoring veterans and service members. The event featured live music, a military tribute, a rib eating contest, and amusement rides, culminating in a fireworks display. This year's celebration also recognized the nation's 250th anniversary and the city of Greer's 150th anniversary. City offices were closed on Friday, July 3rd, for Independence Day, though first responders and essential employees remained on duty. Trash collection followed a normal schedule, and the convenience center remained open on Friday, but closed on Saturday, July 4th. Additionally, an update was provided on the Greer 150 mural, a public art project located on Randall Street, with artist Adam Shmer of Blank Canvas Mural Co. making significant progress. This mural commemorates Greer's 150 years of innovation and community. Furthermore, children participating in the city's summer camp program received firsthand training from Greer police officers, engaging in an obstacle course at the Needmore Community Center.
