Key changes include updating zoning districts, creating a new R3 district for smaller lots, reclassifying properties from older districts, and modernizing definitions and references. Additionally, the council accepted updated multifamily design guidelines, which focus on modernizing construction standards and materials for townhomes and apartments, with specific standards for larger buildings to incentivize smaller developments and improve exterior finishes and parking configurations. The ordinance was approved with a roll call vote, and the multifamily design guidelines were accepted through a separate motion.
Former Firefighter Retiree Questions Pension Discrepancies and Approval Processes
During the public comment period, Mark Cole, a former fire department retiree, raised concerns about a recent $2,000 pension increase for current fire department staff, contrasting it with the smaller, inconsistent increases received by former retirees. He also presented a pension qualifying form (SC 22) for an individual who allegedly did not meet the 20% yearly service credit requirement (attending only eight calls in two years) but still received a pension. Cole questioned how this pension was approved. City staff advised that personnel and pension disbursement issues should be directed to the City Administrator.
