Ordinance on Domestic Fowl and Permit Fees Deferred for Revision
The Board of Mayor and Aldermen considered an ordinance to amend title 10 of the La Vergne Municipal Code regarding domestic fowl and adding a permit fee. After discussion, a motion was made and seconded to defer this ordinance back to the planning commission for revisions. Concerns were raised about the slaughtering aspect of the ordinance, the fairness of the permit fee, and the need for further discussion and revision.
Parks and Recreation Department Updates on Events and Thanks Contributors
The Parks and Recreation department reported on recent and upcoming events. The Liberty Lap Color Walk occurred on June 13th, and the Independence Day celebration was held on July 4th. Upcoming events include a foam party for kids on August 7th and the annual 5K Howl at the Moon on August 21st, with tiered registration fees. The department thanked various entities and staff for their contributions to the July 4th celebration, including the Police and Fire departments, Jerry Davenport, the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, and specific park staff members. National Night Out is scheduled for October.
Water Treatment Plant Achieves Compliance, Begins Sampling and Flushing Programs
The Water Treatment Plant reported compliance with TDEC requirements for the Consumer Confidence Report certification form, submitted by July 1st. The annual flushing program began at the end of June and is expected to finish by the end of September. Lead and copper sampling has commenced, with 9 out of 30 required samples received so far; residents are urged to return survey forms for this triennial compliance measure. The SCADA project is nearing completion, with minor bugs being addressed. There were three customer complaints in June: two for low water pressure (one tested at 80 psi, the other at 35 psi for a new build, both within required minimums) and one for a high water bill suspected to be a leak (inspector found a very slow turn on the meter, advised checking the toilet). Turbidity numbers have remained steady.
