ISG Selected for Design Services for 7th Avenue Southeast Development Phase 1
The council approved an agreement with ISG for preliminary design, final design, and construction administration services for the 7th Avenue Southeast Development Phase 1. This phase covers 16 acres of land purchased from Lundy and is anticipated to be designated an urban renewal area, making it eligible for TIF reimbursement. The development is proposed for 34 lots with a large detention basin and involves infrastructure work, including a lift station to support future development and replace an existing one.
Fire Rescue Department Ordinance Update Approved on First Reading
The Lamar City Council reviewed and approved the first reading of an ordinance to update chapter 36 of the Lamar's code of ordinances, pertaining to the fire rescue department. The changes aim to reflect current staffing, job duties, and other operational aspects of the department. The administration recommended approval.
Harvest Ridge Addition Rezoning Approved on First Reading
The Lamar City Council held a public hearing and approved the first reading of an ordinance to rezone Harvest Ridge Addition. The addition comprises 11 residential lots, all proposed to be zoned R1. The administration and the planning and zoning commission recommended approval.
Lamar Approves Public Hearing for Business Highway 75 South Patching Project
The council voted to proceed with a public hearing for the Business Highway 75 South Patching Project. DGR has prepared plans, specifications, and cost estimates for this project, which addresses concrete issues south of the planned Business Highway 75 reconstruction project set to begin in 2027. Key dates include a public hearing on July 21, 2026, bid opening on August 13, 2026, and council award on August 18, 2026, with a late start date of September 21, 2026. The estimated cost will be paid from TIF or road use tax.
Council Approves Liquor License Renewals, New Licenses, and Tax Exemption Request
The council approved consent items, including the renewal of a liquor license for Iowa Barbecue Company, Chicken and Waffles, a new 5-day liquor license for Bakers, the train station, and temporary premise transfers to KC's. Approval was also given for the certification of municipal utility liens resolution and an urban revitalization tax exemption request for the Mackie Addition.
