Fire and Police Department Activity Reports Filed
Alderman Alton presented the Loves Park Fire Department's Incident Statistics Report for the weeks of June 11th through July 1st, and the Loves Park Police Department's bi-monthly activity report for June 7th through June 27th. The fire department responded to 7 fire calls, 179 medical calls, 11 hazardous situation calls, 34 public service calls, 23 non-emergency false alarms, and 2 calls to assist the police department. The police department handled 1,394 calls for service, made 38 arrests, issued 310 tickets and warnings, and responded to 38 vehicle crashes. Both reports were ordered to be placed on file.
Seniors Express Concern Over Eviction from Community Center Space
Several members of GPAC (Greater Rockford Park District Senior Center) voiced concerns about being asked to vacate their current space, located at City Hall, for a police department expansion. They highlighted the center's long history (47 years), its importance as a sanctuary and social hub for seniors, and the difficulty they would face in finding an affordable and safe alternative location. Concerns were raised about the adequacy of notice regarding lease expiration and the potential dangers of relocating to the west side of Rockford. Mayor and aldermen clarified that the space is needed for police expansion and that legal steps would be necessary if the group did not vacate, encouraging discussions about moving assistance with the mayor's office.
City Releases ADA Transition Plan for Public Comment; Upcoming Events Announced
The City of Loves Park's ADA transition plan is now available on the city website for a 30-day public review and comment period. Following this period, the plan will be presented for adoption by the City Council at the August 17th Council meeting. The Mayor also announced upcoming events including the Kiwanis Brat Days on July 10th-11th and a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Wintland Splash Pad on July 10th at 6 p.m. The next council meeting is scheduled for July 20th at 6 p.m.
Departmental Activity Reports Filed; Committee Updates Provided
Alderman Schlensker reported that the committee approved minutes from their May 4th meeting and received weekly activity reports from the Street Department (David Jacobson) and the Water Department (Drew Armstrong). These reports were ordered to be placed on file. Committees for Finance Administration, Public Safety, Public Works, and Codes and Regulations reported no new business or had no reports, with some noting upcoming meeting dates.
Community Development Committee to Present Two Ordinances
Alderman Pruitt reported that the Community Development committee met and approved minutes from a previous meeting, which will be placed on file. As a result of their meeting, two ordinances will be brought forward. These ordinances relate to the community development matters discussed by the committee.
