Council Awards Contract for Schultz Elementary Safe Routes to School Improvements
The City Council authorized the execution of a contract with PA Civil LLC for the Schultz Elementary Safe Routes to School Improvements project on 51st Avenue Northeast. The project aims to improve pedestrian and bicycle access by constructing a concrete sidewalk, curb and gutter, and stormwater improvements. The project budget is $1,120,051, with $647,948 funded by grants from Washington State Department of Transportation (WashDot) and the Department of Ecology, leaving a city contribution of $472,103. The project is scheduled to begin in late July 2026 and be completed by late September 2026.

Despite a fire interrupting the fireworks show, the overall event was deemed a success, thanks to the efforts of various city departments, volunteers, and community members. Additionally, the Mayor attended the closing ceremonies for the Real Madrid soccer camp, noting the presence of the Spanish Consul General and praising the community spirit shown by the participants and families. Jenny Fries from the Parks Department was credited for organizing the camp with the Real Madrid Foundation.
City Council Accepts Donated Sculpture from Snohomish County Arts Commission
The City Council accepted a sculpture valued at $9,778, received as part of the Great Soccer Ball Hunt, from the Snohomish County Arts Commission. The council passed Resolution 2586 to formally accept this donation, which adds to the community's public art collection.
Update on Fireworks Show Credit Following July 4th Incident
Director Meisel provided a brief update regarding the fireworks show from the July 4th celebration. The show was ended early due to a fire. The city is working with the fireworks company to obtain a credit for the unused portion of the show and will provide further information later in the week.
