Liam City Council Approves Ordinance Allowing Carports in Front Setbacks

The Liam City Council discussed and approved Ordinance 26-13, which amends section 26-33338 Travis to allow carports to be placed within the front 25-foot setback of residences or commercial buildings. Previously, carports were not permitted in this setback without a variance, a time-consuming process. The new ordinance aims to streamline this by allowing placement based on existing rules and regulations, while still requiring adherence to site vision and safety rules like site triangles. A penalty clause was included, with potential fines of up to $100 per day for violations. The council also agreed to add language allowing for fee waivers in special circumstances, to be determined by the Community Development Director or their designee, before final approval.
