Monroe Township Celebrates Retirees, Recognizes Projects, and Kicks Off July 4th Festivities

Monroe Township Council Addresses Concerns Over AI Data Centers and Zoning Regulations

The council clarified that current zoning codes do not permit data centers as a use, and Ordinance 013 aims to explicitly remove any ambiguous language that could be misinterpreted. The discussion also touched upon the challenges and limitations of regulating state and federal properties regarding zoning.
Monroe Township Council Reviews Zoning Amendments, Bond Ordinances, and Easement Acceptances
The council reviewed and considered several ordinances, including amendments to zoning codes (Ordinance 06202610, 06202613) related to data processing and various commercial/industrial districts. Ordinance 06202614 recommends the adoption of a municipal landfill redevelopment plan. Ordinances 06202615 and 06202616 are bond ordinances for capital improvements and water/sewer utility improvements, respectively. Ordinance 06202617 authorizes the conveyance of property for roadway improvements. Ordinance 06202611 and 06202612 authorize the acceptance of deeds of permanent easement. Discussions included concerns about the impact of AI data centers on zoning, water resources, and noise pollution, with clarification that data centers are not a permitted use in Monroe Township at this time. Traffic Safety Concerns and Signal Maintenance Discussed at Monroe Township Council Meeting
Concerns were raised about traffic law violations, including running red lights, tailgating, speeding, illegal passing, and distracted driving (texting/phone use). Suggestions included reinstating red light camera laws, utilizing dash cam footage, and increasing enforcement days. The condition of traffic signals and the need for repairs were also discussed, with an update on signal repairs at Schoolhouse and Prineville Road and a request for a comprehensive inspection report of all township traffic signals.
Monroe Township Approves Bonds for Capital Improvements and Utility Upgrades
Ordinances authorizing bond issues for various capital improvements and water/sewer utility improvements were discussed. Ordinance 06202615 appropriates $1,882,855 for capital improvements, and Ordinance 06202616 appropriates $4,368,200 for water and sewer utility improvements. Discussions also touched upon water and sewer connection fees, with $137,000 collected in the first six months of the year. It was noted that water connection fees increased by $200 and sewer fees by $200 due to a statutory formula. The water tower project was reported as complete.
