The Town Manager's newsletter has been released and is available. Additionally, Moody's has reaffirmed the Town of Nantucket's AAA bond rating with a stable outlook, reflecting strong financial management and robust reserves, which allows for lower borrowing rates beneficial to taxpayers.
Water Restrictions in Place; Shellfish Hatchery Tours and HAB Monitoring Underway
The town is under a level two drought with mandatory water restrictions and associated fines. Annual Brandpoint shellfish hatchery tours are available on Tuesdays, requiring registration due to limited space. Harmful algal bloom (HAB) monitoring is underway weekly from June 2nd through April 3rd, involving town and regional partners monitoring selected ponds.
Select Board Approves Town's Long-Term and Short-Term Debt Sales
The Select Board approved the town's long-term and short-term debt sales. Six bids were received for short-term debt, with a lowest net interest cost of 4.84%. Fourteen bids were received for long-term bonds, with the lowest total interest cost of 2.65%, attributed to the town's AAA bond rating. The approval included authorizing the execution of related documents and compliance procedures.
Select Board Addresses Post-Fourth of July Beach Clean-Up Efforts
The Select Board discussed the ongoing issue of trash left on beaches after the Fourth of July. African Meeting House Investigation Report Nears Public Release
The board discussed the investigation into the African Meeting House. A draft report from the investigator was submitted to town council, reviewed, and is being revised for privacy and conciseness. An executive summary will be created due to the report's length. The final report and summary will be publicly posted on July 22nd, with board members not having access prior to the public release. The chair noted that the board would not meet with the investigator ahead of the public release.
