Neptune City Receives Grant for Community Garden, Highlights Educational and Administrative Achievements
Mayor McGreevy highlighted several community initiatives and administrative achievements. Residential sewer bills have been mailed on time, marking a first in years, demonstrating government efficiency. An audit of business sewer usage is underway, with bills to follow. Neptune City received a $10,000 grant from the PSEG Foundation through Sustainable Jersey to support the 'Community Garden Grow for Good' project, aimed at promoting healthy food access, sustainable education, and volunteerism without additional taxpayer cost. The mayor also detailed educational activities, including a field trip for seventh and eighth graders to Washington Crossing Park and Princeton Battlefield, sponsored by the Neptune City Historical Committee and supported by local businesses. The 'Inherited Memories' project at Woodrow Wilson Middle School, where students documented Holocaust survivor stories, was praised. The eighth-grade class hosted an America 250 celebration, and the police department participated in a county parade. The mayor also provided information on cooling centers available due to a heat advisory and encouraged residents to utilize them.
Neptune City Adopts Ordinances to Fulfill Affordable Housing Obligations
The council introduced and adopted two ordinances related to the borough's affordable housing obligations. Ordinance 202615 amends Ordinance 202608 to include a rehabilitation program as part of the borough's fourth round housing element and fair share plan, fulfilling a rehabilitation obligation of 12 units under the Fair Housing Act. Ordinance 202616 amends Ordinance 202607 to include a maximum density of 20 units per acre within the mixed-use overlay zone, satisfying the unmet need for affordable housing as required by the court. This amendment clarifies the permitted density within the bulk standards for the redevelopment overlay zone.
Food Truck Festival Date Changed; Grant and Volunteer Efforts Applauded
Councilwoman Pamela Renee congratulated the Environmental Commission and Green Team for receiving a grant and expressed appreciation for volunteers, especially those involved with the community garden. She also announced a change in the date for the food truck festival from September 19th to September 26th.
Neptune City Appoints New Patrol Officer Zachary A. Veach
The council authorized the appointment of Patrol Officer Zachary A. Veach to the Neptune City Police Department. The resolution was moved by Council President Kosis and seconded by Councilman Johnson. Officer Veach, 22 years old, was raised in Waltham Township, graduated from Walt Township High School, and attended Seattle University. He previously served with the Spring Lake Police Department and graduated from the Monmouth County Police Academy with a GPA of 93.32. Captain Kenneau spoke, welcoming Officer Veach and expressing confidence in his positive impact on the community. Officer Veach then took the oath of office. Chief Quadliado also expressed his support.
Emergency Services Report Highlights Response Times, Safety Tips, and Cooling Center Availability
Councilman Robert Johnson, reporting on Emergency Services, welcomed Officer Beach and thanked Woodrow Wilson Middle School for inviting him to their graduation. He detailed a recent accident response on Third Avenue, noting a total response time of approximately three and a half minutes, with swift action from both the police and fire departments. He provided statistics for the fire department's June activity, including 20 calls and a year-to-date total of 120 calls, with average response times. He also shared safety information regarding fireworks and grill usage in anticipation of the July 4th holiday, including statistics on injuries and safety tips. He inquired about the availability of the senior center as a cooling station, and confirmed that cooling centers are available at the community center and library.
