Linda Hos was ratified for the part-time position of library aid and cataloger at the Adams Free Library. She will be classified as a grade four, step five, with an hourly rate of $19.07, starting on or about June 18th. Hos has strong computer skills, communicates clearly, and has previous public-facing experience. The board unanimously approved her appointment.
Adams Approves FY27 Shared Services Agreement with Seavoi for Council on Aging
The board voted to approve the fiscal year 27 Council on Aging shared service agreement with the town of Seavoi, primarily for transportation services. Adams provided 899 services to 39 Seavoi residents from July to March in FY26, representing about 4% of Adams' total services. The billing for FY27 is set at $11,000, which is an increase from FY26's $9,000. Seavoi contributes $8,000 through a flat grant, with the remainder funded from their town budget. The agreement includes various services beyond transportation, such as outreach, public assistance applications, and case management. The board also discussed the van's availability for both towns and the potential for future van replacements, noting their current 2024 and 2018 vans. Seavoi's board has already approved the agreement. The board unanimously approved the agreement.
Board Enters Executive Session for Police Chief Contract Negotiations
The board moved to enter executive session to discuss contract negotiations for Timothy C. Serell, interim chief of police, citing potential detrimental effects on negotiations if conducted in open session, pursuant to Mass General Law Chapter 3A section 21A. The motion was made by Ann and seconded by Kelly, passing unanimously via roll call vote. The board planned a brief recess before returning to open session and then re-entering executive session.
Host Community Agreement Amendment Approved for Indica Cannabis LLC
The board approved an amendment to the host community agreement with Indica Cannabis LLC, extending the expiration date to August 31st. This amendment is a stop-gap measure while the town works with legal counsel to negotiate new, long-term host community agreements that offer greater protection to the community, as current templates provided by the CCC are deemed insufficient. Indica LLC brought the need for this amendment to the town's attention during their license renewal process, which was flagged by the CCC. This is similar to a previous amendment made with MOTA 420. The extension is intended to provide sufficient time to finalize updated agreements.
National Grid Donates Trees for Town Beautification Efforts
National Grid donated five Ginkgo trees, which were planted on the green space near Winter Street. They will also donate a Jefferson Elm tree to be planted at The Glen for the American 50th celebration on July 18th. The DPW has provided watering bags and integrated the trees into their regular watering schedule. The Ginkgo trees are planted approximately 15-20 feet from the retaining wall. The Winter Street area is a potential site for rebuilding with Community Development Block Grant funds, for which the town has applied and awaits a decision in the fall, with a potential bid package for spring 2027 if awarded. The board thanked National Grid and Joe for their contributions.
