O'Calla Police Department Reports on Recent Crime and Enforcement Activities

The O'Calla Police Department reported on activities from June 15th to June 28th, 2026. Baker Acts remained stable, while Marchman Acts showed a downward trend despite an increase from the previous year. Total calls for service exceeded 7,100, with 63% being proactive. There were 290 reported crimes leading to 230 arrests. Traffic incidents included 949 calls and 171 crashes, an 11% increase. A significant case involved a fatal drug rip resulting in two deaths, leading to a felony murder arrest. The department also recovered a large amount of marijuana and handguns during a traffic stop and addressed a minor traffic violation that escalated due to the driver's lack of license endorsement. Investigations into child exploitation resulted in life sentences and lengthy prison terms for several individuals.

O'Kella Approves Additional Expenditures for IP Addresses and Bandwidth Services

The City Council approved additional expenditures for the contract with Cogent Communications Inc. for IP addresses and bulk bandwidth. Due to market changes and increased demand, Cogent increased monthly charges. The amendment locks in current pricing for 12 months and converts IP addresses from month-to-month to a 12-month term. Staff recommended approval.
