Wastewater Department to Upgrade Eastside Treatment Plant with New Skimmer Equipment
The Wastewater Department requested authorization to accept a bid of $145,232 from Guardian Environmental Products for rotary scum skimmer equipment for settling tanks at the Eastside Wastewater Treatment Plant. This is part of annual upgrades, and the funds are already budgeted. Guardian Environmental Products was the lowest of three vendors who bid on the project. The equipment is a replacement in kind, as many existing skimmers are from the 1970s and '90s.
Sidewalk Replacement Request Approved for 157 West Bridge Street
The zoning and planning office received a request from Craig Gilkey, owner of a professional building at 157 West Bridge Street, to replace an existing sidewalk. The property currently has a partial sidewalk from Bridge Street halfway to his house, and he wishes to extend it to Cayuga Street. Mr. McGann, after reviewing the property, spoke with Mr. Clary, and they saw no issues with the request. A motion was made to accept the request.
West 3rd Street Block Party Approved
The office of economic development received a request for use of public space from Jukic Kaks to host a West 3rd Street block party on Saturday, July 18th, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The neighbors plan to have food, recorded music, and potentially live entertainment from neighbors with guitars. They understand they will need to pay for the road closure. The request was moved forward with a roll call vote.
Fitness Classes Proposed for Monck Park and Bright Back Park in August
The office of economic development received a request from Suzanne Menicha to host mat pilates and yoga sculpt classes in Monck Park and Bright Back Park during August 2026. Ms. Menicha has been teaching fitness classes for eight years and wishes to utilize public park space. She plans to alternate between the two parks for the classes, which would be held on Monday mornings at 7:15 a.m. The request was moved forward with a roll call vote.
Council Debates Fuel Purchase Agreement for Sheriff's Marine Vessel Amidst Shared Services Discussion
A request was made for authorization for the Oswego County Sheriff to purchase fuel at cost for their marine vessel. Commissioner Craig Rebeor was absent but provided a detailed email. While some councilors questioned the specifics, citing a need for more information on historical practices, intermunicipal agreements, and annual fuel purchase volumes, others supported the initiative as a routine matter of inter-municipal cooperation and shared services, especially given upcoming events like Paddlefest and Harborfest where the Sheriff's Department assists. Concerns were raised about tabling the motion, potentially delaying crucial support for these events. The matter was ultimately moved to the council for further discussion, with the expectation that answers to questions would be provided.
