City Council Approves Application Process to Fill Council Seat Vacancy

The City Council discussed and decided on a method to fill a vacancy on the City Council created by the resignation of Council Member Jessica Romero. Due to the short timeframe before the next regular election, a special election was deemed unfeasible by the county elections office. The council opted for an appointment process. They agreed to solicit applications from interested individuals residing in District B, with a requirement to be at least 18 years old and otherwise qualified to hold office. The application period will open on July 1st and close on July 28th. The council will conduct interviews using a "two by two" format (two council members interviewing applicants, with subsequent broader council interaction) before making a final appointment in an open session, adhering to Government Code Section 36512 and the Brown Act.
