Town Board Approves Budget Amendments, Settlements, and Appointments
The town board approved several resolutions related to finances and appointments. Resolution 26T-122 authorizes the settlement of DeMarco Brandt Point LLC tax certiorari proceedings. Resolution 26T-123 authorizes 2026 budget amendments for the library fund, noted as budget-neutral and based on grant funds. Resolution 26T-124 authorizes the supervisor to sign a license and hold harmless agreement for a fence within a storm sewer easement at 65 Somala Circle. Resolution 26T-125 appoints a part-time animal control officer in public works, welcoming Mr. Wenzel. Resolution 26T-126 appoints a full-time laborer to the sewer division, public works, welcoming Mr. Giofrita. Resolution 26T-127 supports the town seeking grant funding through the NYS Consolidated Funding Application (CFA) process. Resolution 26T-128 revises the 2026 employee handbook regarding vacation leave. All resolutions passed with five ayes.
Public Hearing Held for Microbrewery and Restaurant at 1221 Empire Boulevard
A public hearing was held to consider a special use permit for a microbrewery with a small restaurant on the first floor and potential office space on the second floor at 1221 Empire Boulevard, within the LaSalle's Landing Development District. The legal notice was published on June 17th, 2026. The applicant, Philip MacArthur, representing Birch Creek LLC, stated that planned improvements are minor, focusing on updating signage, exterior painting, cleaning, and interior maintenance. No new building construction or land disturbance is anticipated. Public hours are planned from late afternoon to 10 p.m. on weekdays and noon to 11 p.m. on weekends, with earlier closing on Sundays. Initial staffing will be 2-3 employees, increasing to 4-8 during peak hours. Periodically, live music will be hosted indoors or outdoors, ending by 9 p.m. The vision includes creating a social space respectful of neighboring properties, with operational policies to minimize noise. The proposed use is considered consistent with zoning regulations and the town's revitalization efforts for the Empire Boulevard corridor. The purchase of the property is contingent on receiving the approved use permit. Discussions regarding parking, including the potential purchase of the adjacent former Agway property, are ongoing. The applicant also mentioned potentially leasing out second-floor office spaces.
Consulting Services Agreement, Labor Appointment, and ARPA Fund Authorization Approved
The town board authorized entering into an agreement for consulting services under Resolution 26T-129. The resolution passed with five ayes. Additionally, Resolution 26T-130 appointed a full-time laborer to the facilities division of public works, welcoming Mr. Wang to the position. This resolution also passed with five ayes. Lastly, Resolution 26T-131 authorizes the use of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds allocated by Monroe County for senior and youth projects, with a note that the funding would be lost if not utilized. This resolution also passed with five ayes.
Declaration of Independence Read in Full to Mark Nation's 250th Anniversary
In celebration of the nation's 250th anniversary, Kathy Kanauer and Anna Jarvis from the history department read the Declaration of Independence in its entirety. The reading commemorated the 250th anniversary of the signing on July 4th, 1776, and reflected on the enduring principles of liberty, equality, self-government, and the consent of the governed. The document's words have inspired generations in the pursuit of freedom and justice. The reading served to honor this legacy and encourage citizens to carry these ideals forward. The Declaration states that governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed and that the people have the right to alter or abolish a government that becomes destructive of these ends. It lists numerous grievances against the King of Great Britain, justifying the colonies' separation and declaration of themselves as free and independent states with the full power to levy war, conclude peace, contract alliances, establish commerce, and conduct all other acts of independent states. The document concludes with a pledge of lives, fortunes, and sacred honor.
