Board Reviews Policies, Approves Educational Contracts and Professional Development
During the board meeting, several committee reports were presented. The Administration and Facilities (ANF) committee reviewed policy updates for superintendent duties, curriculum, career education, and legal notices, with policy 5112 (entrance age) recommended for approval. They also recommended abolishing regulations 2200, 2411, and 2460. The committee reviewed communication about a ban on student personal internet-enabled devices for the 2026-2027 school year and recommended approval of AVID services contracts. The Curriculum committee reviewed the school performance report and recommended approval of educational contracts for technology platforms and databases, as well as the purchase of PSAT testing materials from College Board for $27,665. Several professional development opportunities were recommended for approval, including AP courses in psychology, African-American studies, microeconomics, and US History, with costs ranging from $975 to $1,175. Approval was also recommended for consultants to provide professional development for tier 1 behavior support strategies at a cost not to exceed $22,000. The board also voted on administration, curriculum, finance, and personnel items, with some verbal corrections noted for finance items. A motion to approve board of education minutes from May 26th and June 9th was made, with one abstention on the May 26th minutes.
District Recognizes Spring Athletes for Outstanding Achievements
The school district celebrated the accomplishments of its spring athletes from High School South and High School North. Several teams and individual athletes were recognized for their successes in various sports including volleyball, tennis, and track and field. Coaches were also honored for their dedication and achievements. Achievements included multiple championship wins, broken school records, and athletes committing to collegiate-level play. The event highlighted the hard work, dedication, and talent of the student athletes and their coaches throughout the spring season.
Finance Committee Reviews Financial Health, Approves Numerous Contracts and Rate Adjustments
The Finance Committee met on June 16th and reviewed financial reports, confirming no line items were overexpended and sufficient funds remain for the fiscal year. They reviewed several motions for approval including cyber liability coverage, transfer of surplus funds to Capital Reserve, tuition and meal rates for the 2026-2027 school year, sale of solar renewable energy credits (SREs), athletic supply bids, cooperative purchasing, landscaping and mowing services, maintenance service contracts, disposal of obsolete equipment, transportation renewals, shared services agreement for bus maintenance, correction of transportation contract days, renewal of a nonpublic transportation route, and approval of summer special education transportation routes. The committee also discussed EUB 2 and the solar carport projects, with foundations to be installed at Maurice Hawk, and steel delivery scheduled for August and September for various schools. The sale of SREs will occur in July, with credits expected to have limited market value. Preparations for the 2025-2026 audit have begun. For the cafeteria, new federal nutrition guidelines regarding milk and sodium/sugar limits were discussed. The food service vendor, Southwest Food Excellence (SFE), hosted events and saw increased participation in breakfast and lunch programs. The district is on track to fully utilize its New Jersey farm-to-school procurement initiative funding, which supported various nutrition education programs and culinary initiatives. Summer EBT benefits will be provided to 879 students.

During the public comment period, Debbie Bear, a teacher concluding her 32-year tenure with the district, expressed her gratitude and praised the district's leadership, particularly Superintendent Dave Adhold. Dr. Adhold provided opening remarks, congratulating the graduating class of 2026 and highlighting the success of the recent graduation ceremonies. He noted that under 800 graduates crossed the stage. He reflected on the personal significance of this graduating class, as they were his kindergarteners when he started as superintendent 13 years prior. He expressed appreciation for the community and the board's support. Dr. Adhold then discussed the district's active summer programs, including extended school year for special education students, camps, and advancement programs, anticipating up to a thousand students on campus daily. He also mentioned significant facilities work, including upgrades and the upcoming installation of solar projects in five school parking lots over the next year and a half, with the goal of making five schools energy-neutral. He anticipates potential expansion to two more schools in the future. The summer also involves extensive hiring and professional development.
