City Council Meeting Addresses Senior Programs, Code Enforcement, Infrastructure Updates, and Welcomes New Council Member

The City Council meeting convened on July 7th, 2026, with a reordered agenda. Following the approval of the consent calendar (items one through six), Council Member Anita Edmondson was sworn into office, receiving her certificate of election. The meeting then featured a presentation from the Poway Valley Senior Centers Corporation (Friends of Poway Seniors), who presented a check to the city for $186,710 raised over the past fiscal year to support the older adult meal program and other enrichment activities. During public comment, residents addressed issues ranging from code enforcement in the Garden Road area to the success of recent city events like the "Red, White, and Wow" festivities and fireworks shows. The council also heard comments regarding the city budget and the need for thoughtful development standards. A public hearing was held for the 2025 weed and nuisance abatement charges, which were approved for collection on the County of San Diego tax assessor's roll for fiscal year 2026-2027. An update was provided on the Clearwell Replacement Project, announcing the successful placement of the new Clearwell tanks into service and the commencement of the softball field renovation at Lake Poway. Council Committee reports included updates on the Wastewater JPA and the Amateur Radio Field Day. Councilmember Edmondson expressed her commitment to bringing forward community ideas, and Deputy Mayor Maeda praised city staff for their efforts on the July 4th event and highlighted an act of kindness by a Public Works employee, Russell, in maintaining a memorial bench. The council then moved to a closed session with five items listed on the agenda.
