City Approves Nearly $5 Million EPA Recycling Grant
Councillor Strowman moved to approve the EPA Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling (SWIFR) discretionary grant (Item 26) of $4,977,265. The council approved several rezoning requests for GCC Dakota, Inc. and Elevate Rapid City, including changing districts from South Dakota Codified Law 11-4-30 District to Cement Plant District (Item 3), South Dakota Codified Law 11-4-30 District to Mining and Earth Resources Extraction District (Item 4), Light Industrial District to Cement Plant District (Item 5), and General Agricultural District to Light Industrial District (Item 51), among others. Notably, Councillor Evans voted against Item 4, advocating for more creative reclamation of mining sites.
Resident Proposes Roundabout Study for Busy Intersection
Misty Odin presented a conceptual rendering for a roundabout at the Campbell Street and East North Street intersection, highlighting its potential to improve traffic flow and safety, and requested a professional engineering feasibility study to evaluate its suitability. The study would determine if a roundabout is the best solution for the busy corridor which currently experiences congestion and recurring crashes.
