City Approves Budget Increase for Property Insurance, Including Flood Coverage
The city's property insurance final bill was $258,151, exceeding the budgeted $250,000 by $8,151. This increase is partly due to the Challiner Recreation Building not being covered by flood insurance, adding approximately $9,360 to the bill. The council approved Ordinance #2026.30 to increase the budget line item by $17,187 to cover these costs. The Challiner Recreation Center is located in a FEMA floodway and required a separate flood insurance policy. The insurance provides actual cash value for demolition or repair if the building sustains substantial damage (50% or more of its value). The flood insurance cost is high due to the property's high risk.
