Sanford City Council Celebrates Volunteers and Community Partners at Annual Block Party Recognition
The Sanford City Council recognized numerous volunteers and community partners for their contributions to the 14th annual block party, held in April. Host churches included St. James AME Church and Jonesboro United Methodist Church. Various individuals and organizations, such as David Travis, Gene Hathaway, premier contracting, habitat for humanities staff, youth build volunteers, Kevin Spivey, City staff, Public Works, City Police, City Fire, Red Cross, Starbucks, Knights of Columbus, San Felipe, Itoro, Sanford Church, local singing group The Ties That Bind, Temple teens, Kyle Kennedy, Melody from Manna Church, John Ramsberger with Sanford Real Estate and Flooded, and the H3 street medicine team, were acknowledged for their support in various capacities including carpentry, yard work, painting, compost delivery, road closures, safety, smoke detector installation, fire safety education, children's activities, food provision, and entertainment. Special recognitions were given to St. James AME Church, Mana Church of Sanford, The Journey Church of Sanford, Gene Hathaway, Rakeem Johnson, and Andre Petty for their outstanding contributions [cite: 82-113, 127-176]. Plans are underway for the 2027 block party, scheduled for Saturday, April 24th [cite: 115, 125].
Sanford City Council Approves Annexation Investigation for CPW Development Properties
The council considered a petition for contiguous annexation of 0.94 acres owned by CPW Development Properties, located on Pegg Street behind the new first health facility on Tramway Road. Sanford City Council Approves Revised Procurement Policy for Urgent Repair Program
The council reviewed and approved a revised procurement and disbursement policy for the 2026 urgent repair program. The revision removes language about the consultant serving as a general contractor, as requested by the state, but retains the ability to bid by trade for specific repairs, which is intended to help address contractor availability issues and potentially reduce costs.
