Fort Argyle Land Annexed and Rezoned for Mixed-Use Development
The council considered a petition to annex 123.159 acres at 0 Fort Argyle Road from Chatham County to the city of Savannah. The annexation was approved by an 8-1 vote. Following this, the council considered a zoning map amendment for 274.9 acres at 0 Fort Argyle Road and 1150 Fort Argyle Road. The amendment rezones the area from AR (Chatham County) and RSF6 (City of Savannah) to Argyle Grove planned development, allowing for residential, commercial, and mixed-use development. This rezoning was approved with a condition for a 50-foot buffer around existing residential parcels, passing 8-1.
Savannah City Council Honors PAL Girls Flag Football Program for Championship Season
The Savannah City Council recognized the Savannah Police Athletic League (PAL) Girls Flag Football Program for their exceptional 2026 season. Three teams achieved a combined record of 21 wins and 9 losses, securing first, second, and third place in the City of Savannah Girls Flag Football League Tournament. Notably, Team Purple Reign, coached by Yudon Carter, won both the regular season and tournament championships with a 9-1 overall record. The program was commended for its role in youth development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and strengthening relationships between law enforcement and the community.
Georgia Power Donates $40,000 for City Hall Dome Lighting Restoration
The City of Savannah publicly thanked Georgia Power for their generous donation of $40,000 towards the City Hall Restoration Project. This donation will be used to restore the electric lighting in the interior stained glass dome. This follows an earlier donation of $50,000 in 2024 that supported the restoration of historic lighting fixtures in the council chamber and rotunda. The contributions are instrumental in restoring the building's original beauty and historical significance.
City Council Approves Contracts for Police Ammunition, Software, and Building Renovations
The city council approved the renewal of a contract for ammunition for the Savannah Police Department with Gulf Street Distributors for $210,532.30. They also approved a contract with M4 for an ERP Cloud Suite for $5,085,349.50, water treatment services with Evoqua Water Technologies not to exceed $150,375, archaeological services with New South Associates and Brockington Associates not to exceed $250,000, a construction contract with Palo Corporation for the Savannah Police Department's traffic and records building renovation for $975,000, Adobe software licenses renewal with CDW Government LLC for $50,914.76, short-term rental management software with Deckard Technologies for $92,500, and debris monitoring and oversight services with Thompson Consulting Services not to exceed $750,000.
Water/Sewer Agreements Approved for Developments; Infrastructure Projects Also Greenlit
The council approved water and sewer agreements for two development projects: Hopedon West, a mixed-use development, and 308 Dennis Street, consisting of nine single-family homes. Additionally, agreements were approved for improvements related to the President Street grade separation project with Chatham County and for the Gulfstream Road and Gulfstream Drive intersection improvements with Savannah Airport Commission, Chatham County Board of Commissioners, and the Savannah Economic Development Authority.
