City Council Considers TBD Sales Tax Renewal Options for Street Funding

Option 1 requires a 0.1% sales tax increase, continued Real Estate Excise Tax (REIT) allocation, and a $360,000 general fund allocation to avoid depleting the street fund by 2030. Option 2 maintains the current 0.1% sales tax but leads to fund depletion by late 2029 under similar allocation conditions. Option 3 proposes maintaining the current TBD tax rate while reducing general fund allocation for facility maintenance and other capital programs by $150,000 and reducing the general fund allocation to the street fund from $360,000 to $200,000, also resulting in fund depletion. The council voted to move Resolution No. 1445-0626 to the July 21st agenda for further consideration, which proposes a ballot proposition to renew the sales and use tax at a rate of three-tenths of 1% for financing transportation.
