Troy Golf Courses to Implement GPS Systems to Improve Pace of Play and Player Experience
The Troy City Council approved a bid waiver to lease GPS systems for golf carts at Silven Glenn and Sanctuary Lake golf courses. The contract is with Reach Golfers of Scottsdale, Arizona, for $25 per month per cart for 48 months, totaling $51,000 annually, plus a one-time shipping fee of $1,250 per course. Financing will be provided by Alliance Funding Group. The system aims to improve pace of play, a primary complaint, by prompting groups if needed and providing navigation. It also enhances safety by showing hazards and cart locations, and allows for better turf protection through geo-fencing, potentially extending the playing season. The installation is expected to take two to three days and could be completed by the end of July if approved.
Public Comment Highlights Need for Outdoor Roller Hockey Rink and Enhanced America 250 Decorations
Troy residents David and Donnie Niffin spoke during public comment. David Niffin urged the council to consider building an outdoor roller hockey rink, similar to those in nearby cities, noting the ongoing need after petitions were circulated 35 years ago. Donnie Niffin suggested the city could improve its America 250 decorations and lighting to better celebrate the nation's birthday, observing that other towns had more elaborate displays. Council Member Hamilton noted that the Parks and Recreation Board would be the appropriate body to approach for recommendations on new recreational facilities.

Troy Approves Brownfield Plan for Bashard Lofts Redevelopment, Adding 28 Units Including Income-Qualified Housing
The Troy City Council held a public hearing and adopted the Brownfield Redevelopment Plan Number 13 for the Bashard Lofts redevelopment at 1441 East Maple, the former Media Genesis property. This adaptive reuse project will transform the office building into a mixed-use development featuring 28 residential units (10 one-bedroom and 14 two-bedroom units), with half being income-qualified. The project also includes retail and office space on the ground floor, with tenant amenities like lounge areas, co-working spaces, and an outdoor amenity space with a pickleball court. The brownfield program, incentivized by the state and MISTA, aims to address environmentally challenged and blighted properties, with a focus on infrastructure redevelopment and housing. The income-qualified units will be priced around $1,900, while market-rate units will be $2,300 for one-bedrooms and $2,700 for two-bedrooms. The project is committed to affordability for 15 years.
