City Recommends Traffic Signal Over Roundabout for Washington Parkway Intersection

The city engineer presented a traffic impact study for the Washington Parkway roundabout, recommending its replacement with a traffic signal before the construction of a proposed large retail development. The study analyzed two scenarios: the existing roundabout and a signalized intersection, using CIDRA and Visom software for modeling. Public Works recommends the signalization due to projected traffic increases from the retail development and future commercial growth along Grapevine Crossing, aiming to proactively manage congestion. Construction is estimated to take four months. Council members discussed various traffic flow scenarios, including potential modifications to right turns and dual left turns, and considered the impact on surrounding developments and traffic patterns influenced by UDOT signals.
