City Council Approves Roadway Reclassifications and Funding for Salary Reserves and Waste Program

Westfield Receives Over $1.6 Million in State 911 Grants for Public Safety Communications
The City Council accepted a grant of $1,095,283.01 from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security Fiscal Year 2027 State 911 Department Support and Incentive Grant program. This funding is designated for the Westfield Regional Public Safety Communication Center. The grant will be used to purchase four Avtec Scout radio consoles and replacement parts, cover the annual audio recording contract for public safety phones and radio traffic, and acquire six mobile data terminals for police cruisers. Additionally, a significant portion of the funds, $1,058,235.18, will be used to defray the costs of salaries and overtime for certified telecommunicator personnel. The council also approved item two, accepting a $68,439.41 grant from the same executive office for the Fiscal Year 2027 State 911 Department Training Grant Program. This training grant will cover fees for approved live or online training courses, the annual maintenance fee for CritiCall skill and ability testing software, and licensing costs for Emergency Fire Dispatch protocol card sets. Further, item three approved a $499,229 grant from the State 911 Department Development Grant Program to cover half of Southwick's annual assessment fee, 10 months of South Hadley's assessment fee, and technological integrations into the regional system, including a new computer-aided dispatch (CAD) and records management system (RMS). Lastly, item four accepted a $3,988 grant from the State 911 Department Development Grant Program to purchase current medical protocol system card sets and cover the annual maintenance fee of the quality assurance software.
