Appointments Made to Williamsburg Area Transit Authority
Mayor Pons announced appointments: Tavia Griffin as primary representative and Chris Pruitt as alternate representative to the Williamsburg Area Transit Authority for a term ending December 31st, 2026. The council approved these appointments.
City Council Approves Zoning Amendment to Reduce Off-Street Parking Near Transportation Center
The City Council considered and acted on PCR 26-008, an amendment to the zoning ordinance to reduce off-street parking requirements within 0.5 miles of the city's transportation center. City Council Adopts Ordinance for Rounding Cash Payments
The City Council considered and acted on proposed ordinance 26-05 to add section 2-222 to the Williamsburg City Code, establishing rounding procedures for cash payments. This ordinance is a stopgap measure due to the U.S. Mint ceasing penny production, requiring cash transactions to be rounded to the nearest five cents, following state-approved procedures for consumer products. The ordinance applies only to cash payments and will sunset on June 30th, next year, pending further recommendations from the Department of Taxation. The council approved the ordinance.
City Council Supports James City County's Smart Scale Applications for Key Intersections
The City Council considered and acted on proposed resolutions 26-14 and 26-15 to express support for James City County's Smart Scale application for intersections at 199 and Route 5, and 199 and Brookwood Drive. These intersections are located within James City County and not the city of Williamsburg, and the city's support does not include the Jamestown Road 199 intersection, which was previously a point of discussion. The city's support is requested by VDOT to aid the county's application for transportation improvement funds. Council members expressed support, noting the focus on safety and traffic flow improvements within the county and acknowledging that the city's previous concerns regarding the 'bow tie' option at 199 and Jamestown Road have been addressed by removing that intersection from this application.
